'The Goddess' (1934) is a silent film from the golden age of Chinese realist film-making. The leading role was played by the actress Ruan LingYu, who was a star in her time and has become a legend since. Maggie Cheung ('Hero'/ 'Flying Daggers') the special guest of Cinema China 07, who played Ruan LingYu in the feature 'Centre Stage' (1992), was present at the premier and was weeping uncontrollably by the end of the performance. |

This album presents the collaboration of two musicians interacting inter-culturally, Filip from Holland and Kimho from Hong Kong, China. Each has also worked musically across several cultures. The selected music, mostly influenced by East Asian folk music, combined with the aesthetics of European classical tradition, represents a state of mind in music that reflects a genuine interest to understand others' cultures and their subtle nuances. It is possibly the world's first ever recorded album of the instrumental combination of a Chinese dulcimer (Yang chin) and a soprano saxophone. The Album was recorded live in the Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh's Royal Mile and was engineered and mastered by Charlie Jefferson. |

When CCTV broadcasted the documentary River Elegy (Heshang) in June 1988 the television series caused immediate shockwaves throughout China and was not pleasant viewing for the Chinese patriot. Proclaiming the death of Chinese civilisation and calling for thorough westernisation, it was one of the most talked about topics among Chinese intellectuals as well as western observers and is still debated as the Heshang-Phenomenom long after its official ban in 1989. Eardrum Productions worked with the University of Edinburgh in recording the first translated version of this documentary, never before heard in the English Language.
